As most of you know, the US Government is on a ‘Partial’ Shutdown. This action is affecting many of our Brothers and Sisters, Primarily Local 1786 of which a majority of their members are employed at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as well as Ellington Field. This continued action will most likely affect everyone either directly or indirectly. This page has been set up to try and have a common place to allow our members to find helpful information to assist with carrying on with their lives during this trying time. Should any of you have additional information that would help our Brothers and Sisters please email it to Shutdown@iamawdl37.org

Go Back to work!
The President has signed temporary legislation to open the government allowing the government employees to be paid as well as back pay issued. Have not seen anything regarding government contract employees that have been forced to work, or not work being offered the same package. Many contract workers had to work without pay just like many of the government workers. Our International headquarters is working the issue with congress members to see if they can get this turned around and keep this situation fair for all involved, it is only right.
Do Your Part
Contact your local Congressman, tell them that they need to support government contract workers. support legislation that would get contract workers the same re-payment package and consideration as the furloughed government employees. Call early and often. start today.
I would not start bringing back all the pictures of the kids and grand kids to post in your cubicles or on your work bench just yet, Congress has until the 15th of February (3 weeks) to come up with a suitable solution to the funding situation or it will be right back to where we were, another big fat (partial) Shutdown of the government.
SO, please check with your steward or direct supervision to ensure that your place of work will be back in full operation come Monday morning.
